| It's fast. The kids love it. But my husband has had to take it apart and fix the "drive train" 3 times in the short time we've had it including when it was just out of the box. Apparently there is a defect that affects its ability to make right turns. |

| Car does go very fast. A lot of open space is required. This is not a good toy to try and operate in the house. Also, it is what it is... a remote controlled car. Lots of batteries for the car and the remote. My son likes to look at it, but lost interest in driving it after a week. |

With Speed Racer being an important part of my childhood (looking back I realize it was pretty inane, but I loved it then), I got my twin boys interested in the cartoon. As a result, Speed Racer is king in this house and all the important Christmas gifts were Speed Racer this and Speed Racer that.
The toy was opened on Christmas morning. Mommy ran to the local shop for some batteries and from there we got it fired up. It was playtime and the boys were as happy as I'd seen them. They were taking turns (fighting over it), bumping into other gifts, knocking the train set over, etc. Then it all went south. The car no longer steered. The boys were upset that Speed Racer was broken.
I told the boys that I'd have Santa (Amazon.com) deliver a new one in a day or two. I contacted Santa (Amazon.com) and was advised that they would take care of it, all was good... for about 15 minutes. Then I get an e-mail that no more would be available. I responded with a "when". I received an "indefinitely". Santa (Amazon.com), did take care of the return, and they say I'll be refunded the $24.99 for the item and the ridiculous Shipping and handling charge of $18.25. I have not seen it yet, but I trust them. |
